Who Can Apply for Base Jobs?誰が応募できますか？
Most positions on U.S. military bases in Japan are open to Japanese nationals and permanent residents. You do not need to be connected to the military in any way. The main requirement is that you are 18 years or older and legally authorized to work in Japan. SOFA dependents (spouses and family members of military personnel) can also apply — see our SOFA Jobs Guide for details.

Do I Need to Speak English?英語は必要ですか？
This is the most common question, and the honest answer is: it depends on the role, but many positions require no English at all. Cleaning, food service, warehouse, and grounds maintenance are performed daily by Japanese workers who speak no English. Administrative and technical roles may require basic English for written communication. Customer-facing roles at the PX or commissary may require simple conversational English. How Does the Base Entry Pass Work?入門証はどうやって取得しますか？
To work on a U.S. military base, you need a base entry pass (also called a base access pass or installation pass). This is not a high-level security clearance — it is a standard background check that most people pass without issues. Here is how it works:
米軍基地で働くには入門証（基地アクセスパス）が必要です。これは高度なセキュリティクリアランスではなく、ほとんどの方が問題なく取得できる標準的なバックグラウンドチェックです。取得の流れは以下の通りです：
- Step 1: Your employer (or On Time Staffing on your behalf) submits a sponsorship request to the base security office.ステップ1：雇用主（またはオンタイムスタッフィングが代行）が基地の警備部門にスポンサーシップ申請を提出します。

For most entry-level positions (cleaning, food service, warehouse), no special qualifications are needed. Experience is welcome but not required. Yes, generally. Base jobs typically pay above the local minimum wage, include benefits comparable to national public service employees, and often include allowances for transportation and housing.
